Lake walk late evening

Despite the dog's best efforts

This evening we got to the lake a little later than usual. 

It feels as if the summer is finally cooling down a little, gentler and autumnal.

Suzanna asked about this bird, so I thought I had better name them all. They are quite common water birds in Victoria, and generally found on the lake here all year round. 

Walking around the lake after a few days of welcome rain. This is a purple swamp hen.

Wintry day in August

Winter is the season when I can be quiet, think about things, calm down.

This morning was chilly,  thick with fog and drizzle.  The dog and I rugged up and walked around the lake.

Only a determined fisherman and a mad kayaker were out and about. Flashes of orange in the grey morning.

There was no sign of the town surrounding the lake.

Even the ducks were invisible. But we heard them quacking madly in the dense reeds and brush of the islands.

Beautiful winter - water, mist and rain. 

I walk along here, on my way  to work. When I walk, that is!

Lake Wendouree was a pearly shell of bright water and reflected clouds, when we walked around it this evening.

Then, just as the sun went down, everything glowed orange and gold.

The dog almost caught a rabbit and he almost caught a duck (he was on a leash), and swaggered home content.
